Designing a music app based off of user research, from the ground up. After interviewing a variety of people on their use habits and complaints in regards to music playing applications, I looked at a comparable competitor app and drew up a user journey map. Proceeding forward with the project I drew up wireframes based off of my initial research, and conducted initial user testing to determine the functionality of my ideation. Then I adjusted the app, and produced a higher fidelity version to user test again.

The personas were developed off of various interviews conducted. Building off of the personas, the app will have an add feature for music, a easy to use equalizer, a customizable quick-action menu, and better parental control and account linking.

Moving off of the competitor’s journeymap study, keeping the above-stated personas in mind I moved into production of my app. From those journey maps I continued on into lo-fidelety wireframes, covering over 40 screens including on-boarding and all main navigations.

After conducting a second round of user testing to asses the usability of the app, final edits were made to a prototype. My demographics included users that were in their early and late 20’s, as well as one male in his early 40s. Many of them were able to navigate the app without too much difficulty after initial bias was put aside. 

Based off of the user testing, I have found some areas which needed additional attention in the forms of text size and prototype editing. I have adjusted spelling mistakes that were found and added additional screens. The added screens include a logout dialogue and a genre screen which will come in succession to any genre browse. Other edits include a reimagining of the library and playlist library pages, as well as a reconstruction of the player with some options moved to internal menus and overall iconographic adjustment.
